Taiwan S&T Hub Hosted International Conference on "Semiconductors, Global Trends, and Taiwan" in Las Vegas 2024.03.15

The Taiwan S&T Hub hosted the International Conference on "Semiconductors, Global Trends, and Taiwan" in Las Vegas, USA on January 8th. In addition to a presentation by Dr. Chia-Lin Yang, Deputy Executive Secretary of the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) of the National Science & Technology Council (NSTC), introducing “Taiwan Chip-based Industry Innovation Program (TCIIP)” to attract venture capitalists to Taiwan, the Conference also invited several renowned experts and scholars from academia and industry with backgrounds in semiconductor technology, circuit design, electronic design automation, and system design. They shared their views on next-generation semiconductor technology and explored the possibilities of Taiwan-US collaboration in semiconductor industry. Taiwanese experts included Dr. Tuo-Hong Hou, the Director-General of the Taiwan Semiconductor Research Institute (TSRI) of National Applied Research Laboratories (NARLabs) and Dr. Chih-I Wu, the Vice President of the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI). American experts included Dr. Philip Wong from the Department of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University, Distinguished Chair Professor Emeritus Dr. Chenming Hu from UC Berkeley, Chief Security Officer Ms. Deirdre Hanford from Synopsys, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Infrastructure Line of Business Mr. Chris Bergey from Arm as well as Co-founder and CEO Mr. Alon Webman from Chain Reaction, an Israel-based blockchain chip startup.

Furthermore, the Conference featured presentations from Taiwanese IC design startups to showcase their technological achievements, enhance their international visibility, and demonstrate Taiwan's technological strength in IC applications.

In addition to hosting the Conference, the Taiwan S&T Hub also visited JP Morgan and School of Public Health at UC Berkeley in San Francisco to discuss organizing the Health and Medical Investment Symposium held later in the Regent Taipei. During the limited time, they completed the schedule planning of the Symposium and assisted in forming the enterprise selection committee. They eagerly invited Asian startups recommended by relevant agencies to attend the Symposium for presentations, aiming to promote international exchanges among biotech venture capitalists and biomedical startup teams and establish cooperative relationships.

The Health and Medical Investment Symposium invited Dr. Randy Schekman, the professor of molecular and cell biology at UC Berkeley and the winner of the 2013 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, to deliver a keynote speech. Dr. Schekman is renowned for his groundbreaking research in cell membrane vesicle trafficking, which is vital for understanding how cells secrete and transport proteins inside and outside the cell. His contributions not only advance cell biology but also provide important insights into the mechanisms of many diseases.

The Taiwan S&T Hub will continue to actively engage in international cooperation through hosting international conferences and forums in the United States, helping Taiwan's semiconductor and biotech industries exert greater influence on the international stage.
